CoolCharge Insight:
AC vs DC Charging – What You Need to Know

At CoolCharge, we believe informed charging leads to better EV ownership. Understanding the difference between AC and DC charging helps you choose the right solution for every situation, whether at home, at work, or on the road.

AC charging is well-suited for routine daily charging at homes, workplaces, and overnight locations. It delivers power at a steady rate, produces less heat, and is generally easier on the battery. That’s why AC chargers are commonly recommended for home, workplace, and overnight charging, where time isn’t a constraint. For many EV owners, AC chargers form the foundation of daily charging convenience.
DC charging is designed for speed. By delivering high power directly to the vehicle battery, DC fast chargers significantly reduce charging time, making them ideal for highways, fleet operations, commercial locations, and long-distance travel. However, faster charging can generate more heat, which, if used very frequently, may contribute to slightly faster battery aging, particularly in vehicles with limited thermal management.
Most modern EVs are built to handle both AC and DC charging safely. The key is how often and when each is used. Regular AC charging combined with occasional DC fast charging offers a practical balance between convenience and long-term battery care.

Charge smart. Drive longer. Stay cool with CoolCharge.

CoolCharge Tip

Use AC charging for daily needs, and save DC fast charging for when time matters. Overnight or workplace AC charging is easier on the battery, while DC fast charging is perfect for long trips and busy days.
